Goal – To better understand prayer as a spiritual weapon and a believer’s Third Heaven positional authority
- What perspective do you pray from?
- What perspective and posture did Jesus Christ pray from?
- Jesus Christ gave us authority; but we must submit to the authority to walk in it
- Operating from our heavenly position is God’s will, and is effectual

Third Heaven perspective, authority and power
A warrior in natural battle gets updates and battles from an accessible feed giving revelation (intel), discernment, direction and firepower – he’s connected
2 Cor 12:2 ESV – “I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven–whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows.”
1 Pet 1:1-5 ESV – “1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles (pilgrims) of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born againto a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
Eph 1:19-21 ESV – “19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”
Matt 6:9-10 ESV – “Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
- God’s Throne Room is in the 3rd Heaven; Jesus Christ is seated in the 3rd Heaven
- Peter identified the readers as “exiles/pilgrims:” Christians are not of this world – It’s more than a phrase or sticker – “NOTW”
- We’re heirs, with access now to our inheritance in heaven – Jesus Christ died and resurrected – for His church – us born-again believers
- We need to pray from the “Third Heaven” – Holy Spirit flows from the Third Heaven – we battle from the Third Heaven
- We access through faith – God exists outside of time, space, location, etc. Heavenly realm is outside of time. Think of heavenly realm as “parent” to natural realm – first heaven
- The source and flow of power and authority is from heaven to earth – NOTW
Align your mind / “soul” with the Third Heaven
We are NOT of this world, so let’s not pray like we are
Eph 2:1-6 ESV – 1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience– 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ–by grace you have been saved– 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus…,”
Eph 3:8-10 ESV – 8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, 10 so that through the church the manifold (many variations) wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.”
Col 3:1-2 ESV – “1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
- Is our mind aligned with our heavenly position
- Jesus is ALWAYS about His Father’s will – “things above” – so should we
- The church / believers must walk in their positional authority and make it known to “rulers and authorities”
- God’s wisdom is no longer hidden – it’s for believers
Authority is given top down; from the Father, to Jesus Christ to us
We must learn to discern God’s Spirit and remember our positional authority
Matt 16:19 ESV – “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Luke 9:1-2 ESV – “1 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.”
Luke 10:19-20 – “19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
- Prayer is our “book ends” for all spiritual engagements – especially battle
- Prayer weapons – love, praise, worship, glorifying God, declarations, fasting, prophetic acts, holy angel assistance, faith, testifying God’s truth, supplication, thanksgiving, self-control, etc
- Jesus gave His authority to believers to advance His kingdom now;
- We really need His authority for intercessory prayer
Last thoughts and considerations
- Our position and heart posture is our “fighting stance”
- Our stance is always firm, and many times our fighting stance is ON OUR KNEES
- When we keep a Third Heaven perspective, we pray/fight with Third Heaven results
- A Third Heaven perspective is always abiding in our Father’s will – we must learn to know His will
- Jesus Christ gave believers His authority to advance His kingdom on earth now; we won’t need to advance it when we are in heaven – Satan has no access to that heavenly realm and no power or authority there
- Satan and his demonic forces will be in Hell after Jesus returns, and “end of the age” – so this portion of our inheritance is for NOW
- The Third Heaven position and Jesus Christ’s authority is for NOW
Additional verses for self-study
Matt 28:18-20 ESV – “18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age”
- Jesus passes “all authority” here as written in Matthew’s writing, but see my note below on Mark 16
Matt 21:12-13 ESV – “12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.””
- We are temples for the Holy Spirit. WE need to kick out all “robbers”
- Repent and open every door of your house (God’s temple of His Spirit) and command every unclean spirit, false doctrine, and ungodly stronghold to go in the name of Jesus Christ.
Matt 26:39 ESV – “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.””
- Our position and heart posture is our “fighting stance”
Mark 16:15-18 ESV – “15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.””
- Jesus passes His authority to us by commissioning, ordering us to go and do – just like He commissioned, 12, then 72 disciples to do in the New Testament gospel accounts. We accept the great commission of in Matt 28 easily, but somehow are uneasy about how it is stated in Mark’s Gospel writing.
John 3:31 ESV – “He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.”
Eph 6:17-18 ESV – “17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints…,”
Psa 121:1-2 ESV – “1 A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”
Luke 2:14 NIV – “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
