Men of God dig deep within themselves

Sanctification and deliverance requires going deep

Eze 8:1-18 ESV – “1 In the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house, with the elders of Judah sitting before me, the hand of the Lord GOD fell upon me there. 2 Then I looked, and behold, a form that had the appearance of a man. Below what appeared to be his waist was fire, and above his waist was something like the appearance of brightness, like gleaming metal. 3 He put out the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head, and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the gateway of the inner court that faces north, where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy. 4 And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the vision that I saw in the valley. 5 Then he said to me, “Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, north of the altar gate, in the entrance, was this image of jealousy. 6 And he said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel are committing here, to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see still greater abominations.” 7 And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall. 8 Then he said to me, “Son of man, dig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. 9 And he said to me, “Go in, and see the vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10 So I went in and saw. And there, engraved on the wall all around, was every form of creeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel. 11 And before them stood seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and the smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12 Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, ‘The LORD does not see us, the LORD has forsaken the land.'” 13 He said also to me, “You will see still greater abominations that they commit.” 14 Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the LORD, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz (Assyrian fertility god). 15 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? You will see still greater abominations than these.” 16 And he brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men, with their backs to the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east, worshiping the sun (Ra – Egyptian sun god) toward the east. 17 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit the abominations that they commit here, that they should fill the land with violence and provoke me still further to anger? Behold, they put the branch to their nose. 18 Therefore I will act in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”

  • Where is the digging taking place?
  • We must look past the entrance of “God’s Temple” and go deep
  • Only pure Levitical priests allowed in the inner court / holy place – instead, the worship of false gods across all areas of the temple
  • What are we worshipping.., have you shined light into your “dark room” is the areas in our heart / soul – God sees it all
  • Don’t be afraid to excavate – to get rid of ungodliness from all areas – all rooms
  • The enemy hides “in plain sight” or “deep underground”
  • The demonic “strongman” likes going deep underground
  • Sanctification and deliverance require continual digging – outer court (body) inner court (soul)

Don’t defile your camp

Battling our enemy requires a clean and orderly camp

Deu 23:9-14 ESV – “9 When you are encamped against your enemies, then you shall keep yourself from every evil (“ra” wicked, misery, bad) thing. 10 “If any man among you becomes unclean because of a nocturnal emission, then he shall go outside the camp. He shall not come inside the camp, 11 but when evening comes, he shall bathe himself in water, and as the sun sets, he may come inside the camp. 12 “You shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out to it. 13 And you shall have a trowel with your tools, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig a hole with it and turn back and cover up your excrement. 14 Because the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent (nudity, shame) among you and turn away from you.”

  • God requires order – Notice they had weapons and an e-tool / shovel (an e-tool is a military entrenching tool used to dig fighting holes, fill sandbags and cover excrement)
  • In Neh 4 – the workers rebuilding the wall had shovels / tools and weapons
  • Don’t defile your camp during your campaign – it’s a lifelong campaign
  • One was disqualified from returning to camp until cleansed

It begins with accepting unclean and ends in corruption

Dig and look for anything unclean – by God’s standard, not ours

2 Cor 6:16-18 ESV – “16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch (cling to, or touch, have sexual relations with) no unclean thing; then I will welcome (receive, treat with favor) you, 18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

  • Being “unclean” as a priest disqualified you from service until cleansed
  • Four levels of unclean to consider in our lives (not from OT or NT references)e
    • Defile – no longer in a state of purity or perfection because someone touched it – someone defiled through NO fault of their own – Jacob’s daughter Dinah – no fault, but requires cleansing; you’re around a person who is negative; you get defiled, not contaminated
    • Contaminated – someone abused another, the abused develops a desire to abuse; you have a relationship with a negative person – now you talk / act like them – CONTAMINATION
    • Unclean – defiled, contaminated and you now “carry it” you want to touch or hurt others; you can and will contaminate – “touch no unclean thing
    • Corrupted – Now a person is “it” – One embraces the unclean thing
  • Come out of agreement early with sin, don’t let it dwell (Rom 7:17); and, some bloodline curses take deeper digging
  • Dig deep and then…, maintain your freedom

Last thoughts and considerations

  • Our battle campaign does not end
  • Add a shovel to your weaponry and dig deep
  • Satan and his forces see you in generations too – make your ceiling your next generation’s floor
  • Don’t accept UNCLEAN
  • Learn what the enemy doesn’t want you to know
  • Pursue your inner healing and deliverance

Additional verses for self-study

2 Cor 5:17 ESV – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new (kainos) creation. The old (archios) has passed away (parerchomai – continuing for a time); behold, the new has [have] come (ginomai – begins to be, it’s a process).”

  • The sanctification of our soul is in the process of being made new
  • Our spirit is reborn/ re-generated when we are born-again

2 Ki 4:34-35 ESV – “34 Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. 2 Ki 5:10, 14 ESV – “10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.” … 14 So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.”

  • Naaman instructed by Elisha to wash seven times

Lev 14:51 ESV – “…, and shall take the cedarwood and the hyssop and the scarlet yarn, along with the live bird, and dip them in the blood of the bird that was killed and in the fresh water and sprinkle the house seven times.”

  • Seven times – sanctification is a process; it’s an active process
  • Deliverance too is a process
