Goal – Understand God created man in three parts

Hebrew and Greek Terms / Definitions
- Spirit #H7303 – ruah – breath, wind – used for Holy Spirit, evil spirits, etc. #G4151 “pneuma” Holy, evil, vital force of the body, disposition/influence which fills and governs the soul
- Soul #H5315 “nepes” / #G5590 psuche/psyche – mind, heart, emotions, will, character, personality, memories, passions, appetite, seat of our emotions
- Body #H1320 “basar” / #G4983 “soma” – flesh, body of humans and animals, (ie – container)
- Flesh #H1320 “basar” / G#4561 “sarx” animal nature, our physical nature, cravings, natural origin, generation or relationship
DNA – genetic instructions for the development, functioning and reproducing of living organisms

Made in God’s Image and Likeness
To understand our authority, we need to understand how God created us in His image and likeness. God created us to be His intimate family. Inheritances go to children, not orphans.
Image – we speak and possess personality (knowledge, feeling and will), morality (moral judgements and conscience) and spirituality – ability to commune with God. In His nature and constitution. God is Spirit, but He can see, hear, smell, touch, speak, think, plan, etc.
Likeness – Resemblance, model, pattern – similitude “state of being and qualities of…, we govern, we rule over.
Triune God, Tripartite Man
God put us on the earth with authority and power.
Gen 1:1-3, 26-28 ESV – “1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. … 26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Three separate “He” – Father, Son, Holy Spirit
We know God is Triune, Father, Son (Jesus Christ) and Spirit (Holy Spirit) three separate “He’s” of our Triune God. All in perfect unity with each other, all in agreement at all times – just like we were with God until sin entered the earth as noted in Gen 3 – it messed up all of creation
We are created in three parts – “tripartite”
1 Thess 5:23 ESV – “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit (pneuma) and soul (psuche) and body (soma) be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Heb 4:12 ESV – “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Luke 1:46-47 ESV – “46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,”
Matt 26:38-41 ESV – “38 Then he said to them, “My soul (psuche) is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit (pneuma) indeed is willing, but the flesh (sarx) is weak.””
Body
Our body is for us to exist on earth, the physical world. We can perceive in the physical / natural world. Through our five senses we connect with the physical world.
Physical DNA – ht/wt, complexion, hair color, shape, blood type
Soul
Through our soul we perceive the self, we are conscious of ourself. Our soul allows us to bond with other souls or things.
Soulish “DNA” – personality, habits, talents, likes, emotional characteristics, aversions, will, memories
Human Spirit
Our spirit is designed to be in relationship and communicate with God. God gave man this spirit. God gave us a spirit structure so we could understand and know things about God, eternity, divine matters.
Spirit “DNA” – original sin and man’s sinful nature, anointing, Holy Spirit inhabitation, blessings, curses, spiritual gifts, Holy Spirit giftings
Your Saved – Justified
When we are born again our spirit is reborn – we are immediately justified before our Father in Heaven.
Jesus Christ explained this to Nicodemus…,
John 3:3-8 ESV – “3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Our soul is in the process of salvation,
2 Cor 5:17 ESV – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation (G#2537 “kainos” being made new; begin tobe far newer than before). The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Rom 12:1-2 – “1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed bythe renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern (spiritual discernment) what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Phil 2:12-13 ESV – “12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
- SPIRIT = Saved, reborn, new, provides my legal standing
- SOUL = Renewed, being saved, being made new, controls my flesh
- BODY = Regulated, will be saved, will be made new; OBEYS the soul
Relationship Bonds / Soul Ties
Soul tie (ST) – is not a term found in the Bible. The term is a modern term used to describe a relationship bond. The Bible uses terms like “knitted together” and “one flesh.”
Synonymous with soul – bond, bridge, tie; souls knitted together, one flesh, relationship bond, one flesh relationship, yoked together.
Secular terms – soulmates, emotionally attached, gave my heart to.., twin-flames, attachment (psychology terms – parent-child attachment, attachment disorder, etc)
The ST or relationship bond is a spiritual connection between the souls of two persons or between the soul of one person and something else (object, place, thing, animal, memory).
The ST requires an emotional connection. Our emotions exist in our soul, but the connection is spiritual. Thus, the ST is both soulish and spiritual.
Soul ties can be Godly or ungodly.
Godly Soul Ties (GST)
1 Sam 18:1 ESV – “As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.”
Matt 19:4-6 ESV – “4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”” Jesus quoted Gen 2:24
Examples
- God honoring – a “bridge” for blessings to pass / cross
- Demonstrate Godly love and sacrifice
- Marriage / Family – husband/wife, parent/child, grandparent/child, sister/ brother
- Ministry and godly friendships, business partners, mentors
- Spiritual “DNA” – Blessings, Holy Spirit physical healing, inner healing, deliverance
- Soulish “DNA” – Godly emotions / state – peace, joy, love, kindness, mind of Christ, Godly thinking patterns, etc.
- Relationships where both parties are submitted to Jesus Christ
Ungodly Soul Tie (UST)
- Do evil together, 2) does evil against another, 3) evil is done against you
Gen 34:1-3 ESV – “1 Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the women of the land. 2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he seized her and lay with herand humiliated her. 3 And his soul was drawn to Dinah the daughter of Jacob. He loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her.”
Gen 27:6 ESV – “Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “I heard your father speak to your brother Esau…,”
1 Cor 6:16 ESV – “Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.””
2 Cor 6:14 ESV – “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”
Examples
- Ungodly bonds dishonor God and His commands
- Are founded on sin; it’s a sinful relationship
- Motivated by personal agenda and pleasure
- A bridge for curses and evil
- Spiritual “DNA” – bridge for curses, evil and demonic transfer
- Soulish “DNA” – ungodly emotions, thinking patterns, beliefs, soul deposits
GST and UST Simultaneously – Parallel STs
- Family relationships – abuse – physical, mental, emotional, sexual; crime together – poaching, gang activity, abuse alcohol…
- In marriage – Fornicate before marriage, watch porn together, do drugs together, crime together
Six Signs of an Ungodly Soul-Tie (not exhaustive)
- Unhealthy attachment with a person – Jacob and Benjamin
- Obsession with a person – in authority; from current / previous relationship
- Take on traits of a person – defend their bad habits, sins, problems; keep objects of theirs
- Remain in an abusive relationship
- Recurring dreams, thoughts and fantasies
- Keep objects from past relationships
“A New Creation”
The below more fully describes 2 Cor 5:17 regarding us being a “new creation”
2 Cor 5:17 ESV – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new (kainos) creation. The old (archios) has passed away (parerchomai – continuing for a time); behold, the new has [have] come (ginomai – begins to be, it’s a process).”
- When we are born-again our spirit is made new, but our souls begin to be made new from our previous moral condition, as compared to our soul before we were born-again.
#G2537 “kainos” – new, w/ respect to form = of a new kind, fresh, recent, unused; w/ respect to substance = a new kind, unprecedented, uncommon; context for the verse is – all things are new, previously non-existent, begin to be far different from what they were before.” This is qualitative.
- Paul did not use the Greek word “neos” which denotes quantitatively new.
#G2937 “ktisis” creature – the act of founding, creating, institution or ordinance; context for the verse – is used of a man regenerated through Christ, the reference is to what the believer is in Christ; in consequence of the creative act he has become a new creature.
#G744 “archios” – old – ancient, original, from the beginning; context – a man’s previous moral condition, “old” in relation to the new, earlier things in contrast to things present
#G3928 “parerchomai” – passed away – to go past, to pass by, a person moving forward, an act continuing for a time; para, “by,” erchomai, “to come” or “go,”; context – to pass away, is in the process. Other scriptures use the same word and context: Matt 5:18; 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33; Rev 21:1
- Our souls are in the process of being renewed. We have an active role in the process.
#G1096 “ginomai” – come – to become, to come to pass, come into existence, begin to be; context – to come to pass, begin to be; denotes a process of becoming
In John 3:3 Jesus is clear, Only one’s spirit is new, reborn. We know this because born-again believers don’t get new vision 20/20 or better, balding men don’t grow hair, skeletons are not regenerated without breaks, arthritis isn’t gone, our old sinful memories are not wiped away, in the vast majority of people addictions must still be overcome, depression, mental illness, painful memories of our past hurt/trauma are still present in our soul, and we still practice sin in varying degrees.
John 3:1-15 should be used to understand more fully 2 Cor 5:17 – see below paragraph.
Born-again “anōthen” (#G509 – from above, from heaven, from a higher place, from the first, from the beginning, anew, over again) We are made anew in our spirit as God designed the first Adam before his sin and the fall of man. As a matter of point, Jesus used Moses and the serpent in His description in these passages. The serpent is emblematic of sin, but the serpent was made of bronze by fire, (fire symbolizes judgement) and put on a cross which is emblematic of sin being judged and overcome by Christ’s work on the cross, which we accept by faith – just like the Israelites had to do in faith in the desert by looking at the cross to what God did for them, they did not deserve it. It was their faith in God, and their act of faith and obedience which saved them.
Last thoughts and considerations

Repentance Prayer – Infirmity and Illness
The prayers are NOT a formula, or ritual. We believe on God’s word and come to Him in faith and repentance.
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess I am a sinner and need your forgiveness and repentance. Thank You for dying on the cross for me Jesus. I put my trust in You alone for my salvation and deliverance. Your precious blood covers my sins. I receive and claim the freedom You promised from sin and torment.
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess my sins and transgressing Your spiritual laws. I confess my pride, idolatry, ungodly fear, anger, violence, race hatred, self-hate, hate, rage, murder, death, suicide, bullying, revenge, jealousy, coveting, critical spirit and lying; forgive me for illegal drug use, the ungodly use of prescription medications, alcohol abuse, food abuse, gluttony, and using medications not prescribed to me and for partnering with pharmakia – I repent Lord. Forgive me for using substances to manage my pain in an ungodly manner, I submit myself to You and cast my cares on You Jesus. I break these curses and the curse of addiction – I come out of agreement with these foul spirits, curses and ungodly relationships, I ask for repentance; the curses are broken – they have no hold on me – in the name of Jesus Christ.
I repent on behalf of my ancestors all the way back to the beginning of my bloodline on both sides of my family and cancel their debts against me. I severe all ungodly soul ties and give them back what is theirs and take back what is mine. To include all those I sinned with, or those that sinned against me. I bless them.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I confess I have been double-minded, not serving you fully and putting my trust in myself and fearing man before trusting You Father. Forgive me and grant me repentance. I break the curses of mental illness, mind confusion, depression, heaviness, bi-polar, hoarding, dyslexia, ADD and ADHD, fear, panic attacks, anxiety, paranoia and all irrational phobias, fear of demons, and sleep torment – I have not been given a spirit of fear, but of love, courage and a sound mind in the name of Jesus Christ.
In Jesus Christ’s name I cancel and break the curse of all cancers, endocrine, reproductive illnesses, high blood pressure, heart and lung illness, auto-immune diseases, digestive illness, dementia, memory issues, eating disorders, PTSD / PTSI; I come out of agreement with these curses, they have no hold over me. I plead the blood of Jesus Christ over me and declare my healing by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony – by Jesus Christ’s stripes I am healed.
Lord, I repent on behalf of those who hurt me. Those who sinned against me. I cancel their debts against me. I repent all the way back in my bloodline and cancel all curses, spells, sacrifices put against me by my ancestors, and those they partnered with – In the Name of Jesus Christ.
I repent of all my ungodly soul ties and relationships, for those that sinned against me, and those I sinned with against You God. I come out of agreement with these ungodly relationships. I cut every ungodly relationship bond with those who sinned against me and hurt me; and I cut the ungodly bonds with those I hurt – I declare them severed. I give back what is theirs and take back what is mine. I keep all godly relationship bonds, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Jesus, accelerate my emotions to come into alignment with my decisions and professions of forgiveness. I pull down ungodly stronghold in my mind – I demolish and crush them. I trust in You Jesus Christ as my Steadfast Love, Stronghold, Fortress, Deliverer and Shield.
God, I ask you to remove any pain and illness associated with these sins and ungodly relationships. And by Your authority Jesus, I command every demonic spirit to go, and take every demonic device, arrow and dart with you – in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
