Goal – Understand how Satan uses jealousy, strife and selfish-ambition to distort and destroy family
- Why is family so important to God?
- Does the enemy attack the family so hard?
- What are common attacks against “family” today?
- How many of us have experienced internal family strife?
Hebrew and Greek Terms / Definitions
- sons of God #H1121 “ben” son, grandson, order, class, angels; God “Elohim” see below
- God #H430 “Elohim” strength, majesty, Supreme, One true God
- god #H430 “elohim” rulers, divine ones, god(s), angels, judges
- jealousy #G2205 “zelos” excitement of mind, fierce indignation, envious and contentious rivalry

It began in the heavens
God had / has sons in heaven
Isa 14:12 ESV –“How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son (ben) of Dawn (sahar – of royal splendor)! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low!”
Gen 6:1-2 ESV – “1 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons (ben) of God (Elohim) saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.”
Job 1:6 ESV – “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.”
Psa 82:1, 6 ESV – “1 A Psalm of Asaph. God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods (elohim)he holds judgment: … 6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;”
- Our Triune God had / has sons in heaven
- Much confusion in churches regarding the above verses; some religions masquerade as Christianity using them
- Jesus is NOT one of these sons! Understanding “only Son” John 1:14, 18; 3:16, 18; 1 John 4:9
- A quick look at “only begotten / only son” from Greek “monogenes” monos=only / genos=class or kind – “one of a kind,” “unique w/out a created origin.”
- Jesus Christ is God the Son, not created and not an angel
God designed family as the build block
Undermining the building blocks of society, nations and God’s design
Family as the building block – Gen 1:28; 2:15-28 Adam/Eve; 6:18 Noah; 12:4-5 Abram/Abraham – Satan undermines God’s design for family- he wants to be the stepfather
James 3:14-16 ESV – “14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.”
Rom 1:18, 25 ESV – “18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. … 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.”
Matt 19:3-6 ESV – “3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?” 4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.“

- Enemy distorts God’s order and creates confusion in our minds; distorts / devalues husband and wife roles/responsibilities
- Satan knows God’s orders and laws – he wants you to serve him
- Man’s government doesn’t determine / define family – Isa 9:6 / Matt 16:18
- Satan and all fallen angels are no longer part of God’s family – not redeemable!
- Marriage 1) Jesus is the Bridegroom (Mark 2 and Eph 5) believers are the bride; 2) Perfect unity in Father, Son and Holy Spirit; 3) Makes us more holy
Enemy creates division and discord in the family
What is taking down families in our nation?
Gal 5:18-21 ESV – “18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries,dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
John 7:2-5 ESV – “2 Now the Jews’ Feast of Booths was at hand. 3 So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. 4 For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” 5 For not even his brothers believed in him.”

Discussion topics for you this week at home or with others regarding God’s family order: 1) Why is it so difficult to follow God’s design for marriage? 2) Can you identify patterns of strife and division in your family line? 3) How are you going to break the pattern? – cutting everyone off who doesn’t agree with you isn’t the best solution
Last thoughts and considerations
- God’s original design included family; to have us as a family – God loves family
- God intended “family” to set the pattern and foundation for Godly societies and nations
- Husbands and wives are of equal value, just different roles and duties – the enemy is a liar
- God sees you in generations and wants you and your family to thrive
- When families flourish as God intended – darkness is arrested; God’s Kingdom advances on earth
