This part two of a two-part series. Both lessons will introduce us to the origin and post flood Bible references of the Nephilim and giants
Goal – To introduce the Nephilim, and Satan’s agenda with them – post-flood
- How did the Nephilim exist after the flood of Genesis 7?
- Why does Gen 6:4 tell us the Nephilim were “…, on the earth in those days and afterward…,”
Hebrew and Greek Terms / Definitions
- saw H7200 “ra’a” to see, look intently at, look after, to gaze, watch
- strange #G2087 “heteros” the other, not of the same nature, form, class, kind, different
- tamim #H8549 “tamim” complete, whole, undefiled, healthful, wholesome, unimpaired, innocent, having integrity
- gross immorality #G1608 “ekporneuō” giving oneself over to gross fornication
- mighty men #H1368 “gibor” strong, mighty, valiant, champion, chief, tyrant, impetuous soldier or hunter. From the root word “gabar #H1396” prevail, to show oneself mighty, to act proudly towards God. Only two times “gibor” used directly to refer to giants – Gen 6:4 and 1 Sam 17:51 to describe Goliath. Other times the term is used indirectly to refer to giants – Josh 6:2; 1 Sam 9:1-2; Judges 5
- told #H5046 “nagad” be conspicuous, announce, make known, declare, proclaim
- Nimrod #H5248 “nimrod” rebellion, the valiant
- began #H2490 “halal” to begin to / or to – defile and pollute oneself ritually and/or sexually, to violate, to dishonor
- Babel #H894 “babel” also Babylon – confusion, confusion by mixing
Term – epigenetics – the impact our thoughts, behaviors and lifestyle choices have on our body, soul and spirit, as well as future generations. Epi means “on top of”…, epigenetics means a set of instructions that sit on top of the gene…, liken it to a switch that we can turn off and on with our thoughts…, epigenetic signals unzip DNA from within and…, outside the body…, we need to consider nature, nurture and epigenetics”[1]
Note – This lesson picks up from Nephilim – Part One Oct 22, 2026.
The green is the author’s notations in the verses below. Bold text added for emphasis
God’s word reveals more than your “normal” Sunday School class
Understanding more will require us to leave the “shallow end” of the pool
Jude 1:6-7 ESV – “6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day– 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire (heteros), serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”
Jude 1:6-7 NKJV – “6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality (ekporneuō) and gone after strange flesh (heteros), are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
Gen 6:9-10 ESV – “9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless (tamim) in his generation. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.”
Gen 9:20-27 ESV – “20 Noah began to be a man of the soil, and he planted a vineyard. 21 He drank of the wine and became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told (nagad) his two brothers outside. 23 Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned backward, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.” 26 He also said, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem; and let Canaan be his servant. 27 May God enlarge Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant.””
- Why do we believe angels can have physical form, but not have sexual relations? That doctrine violates scripture. It’s not what the Bible records.
- We believe angels can come in physical form, eat food, etc.
- Noah was naked in his tent – and Ham “saw/ra’a” – he did not cover his father
- Hebrew phrase – “to look upon the nakedness” (Lev 20:11 “lying with”) – describes sexual intimacy, prohibited sex relations, incest, molestation, castration – whatever it was it was BAD
- Shem and Japheth did not – Ham declares, announces to his brothers – Noah curses Ham
- Gen 9:1 God blessed Noah and his sons telling them “…, be fruitful and multiply” Noah had no more children; Noah 600 when he got off the ark, lived to 950;
- Ham demonstrated a pattern of iniquity. Ham received a curse over him/bloodline; it’s very likely Ham’s iniquity was in him before the evil to his father Noah
- Ham’s wife – we don’t know her bloodline; and, we should consider “ovarian reserve” – biologically a maternal grandmother carries her grandchild in her womb from birth.
- Nimrod’s bloodline – Noah, Ham, Cush, Nimrod – Ham’s choices and curse became Nimrod’s predisposition and character
- Ham’s sons – Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan – all were cursed and produced offspring against Israel
We know the giants continued
There’s more to the bloodline
Gen 10:8-10 ESV – “8 Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD.” 10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar (Shinar is where Babylon was/is).”
Gen 10:8 NKJV – “Cush begot Nimrod; he began (halal) to be a mighty one on the earth.”
Gen 11:2-4 ESV – 2 And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.”
- We are not saying Nimrod (rebellion) became a giant. We are saying he rebelled against God, just like Satan – could Nimrod be how the “seed” of Satan continued
- He and those he led didn’t go across all the earth and multiply
- Nimrod began to defile himself through ritual and sexual means – summoning demonic forces – the Tower of Babel was place and building to summon demonic forces w/ occultism
- Most occult practice’s history go back to Babel. Shinar is close to sea-level. If one wanted to reach the heavens, one would start from a higher point of elevation
- The Tower of Babel wasn’t about reaching heaven physically; it was for calling on demonic forces via occult practices
- Nimrod was using occult practices to unlock demonic forces “to begin to” unlock the Nephilim genome through humanity
- Is it possible for “epigenetics” and / or “ovarian reserve” to be used with occult practices to..
- …, birth and release the next generation of hybrid…, we KNOW they continued
- Understanding the evil of the Nephilim and their offspring, we can understand why God commanded the Israelites to destroy all of them
Last thoughts and considerations
- Bloodlines and generations are important to God – it’s about His family
- Satan understands the importance of bloodlines, and uses them to his advantage
- Satan was / is continuing the “seed war” even though Satan was defeated at the cross
- Ham’s bloodline directly tied to Canaan (the landing and the people) via Ham’s son
- God wanted the Israelites to wipe out the genetic offspring of Nephilim
- The unclean spirits of the Nephilim exist still, they are part of Satan’s forces
Additional verses for self-study
Deut 3:1-3, 5-6, 11 KJV – “1 Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. 2 And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon. 3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining. … 5 All these cities [were] fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many. 6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city. … 11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead [was] a bedstead of iron; [is] it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits [was] the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.”
- Og’s bed was~ 14’x 6’
Num 13:28 ESV – “However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.”
Josh 15:14 ESV – “And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak.”
1 Sam 17:51 ESV – “Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.”
